I did not receive any discount or incentive to write this review and I am a current paying customer.Ī great help and experience. I would encourage anyone who is serious about learning the correct method of playing classical guitar to use the CGS platform. To learn this style from a book took a very rare person. Before modern technology, since the late 19th century the only way to learn classical guitar was from a teacher or a book. Even if I did not have a private teacher, I feel like CGS is one of the only on-line programs I have seen that can actually teach you classical guitar, which is really amazing if you think about it. ![]() and I can spend as much time as I want with Allen's video as he breaks down each section of the piece. My teacher will usually help me chose a piece to work on that is also one of the pieces that is available in (CGS), so my time with my teacher can be spent more on going over her feedback with my technique, etc. I still meet with a teacher locally once a week, and find the two to work well together. There is a very structured flow to the program that is laid out for those who want to follow the recommend path, but it is left up to the student how they utilize the system. The lessons are thorough, detailed and Allen has a very pleasant and accessible personality that makes him an excellent teacher. I intend to continue paying for the membership and find it to be very valuable in my progress of playing classical guitar. I have been using the Classical Guitar Shed (CSG) program for almost a year as a paying customer, but have been using Allen's free YouTube videos for a couple of years before that. Enjoy practicing and playing more beautifully! These are two attributes that put CGS on a level by itself. My connection with CGS is inspiring and motivational. As an intermediate player who aspires to become advanced, I have confidence that CGS has the method and resources that I need to set and achieve my goals. I suggest a one year subscription to really impact your playing. As a guitarist of nearly 60 years I recommend CGS. The fb webpage, frequent zoom calls, and open mike Saturdays are great. If you are looking for community CGS has that too. Communication is excellent and is two/way. One final note: real people (like Zac and Allen himself) readily respond to any questions or concerns. I know what I need to do to improve, learn new repertoire, and how to keep my interest and curiosity peeked. Most importantly, I have learned how to practice effectively. After two years I am playing more beautifully, many fewer persistent errors. Classical Guitar Shed delivers what it says: to learn how to play more beautifully. I eventually leveled out around level 2-3. This was a great way to learn how to navigate the extensive website and to learn Allen’s teaching style. After subscribing I started at the very beginning, as recommended. ![]() Two years ago I subscribed to annual membership. I’ve played guitar for most of my life, and classical guitar for 17 years. If you are looking for a self-directed programme of instruction from square one, I'd recommend CGS without reservation. My progress has been slower than I would have liked - but that is entirely down to me. The right mix of humour and purposeful intent. But you can take and leave what you want. Some of the coaching is too detailed for me (as I already have a grasp of musical notation, score-reading etc.). ![]() Still, I sometimes wish there was someone there in the room to correct my technique. (I haven't made as much use of these opportunities as I should have done). There are some limitations to an entirely online programme - though these are partially offset by the workshops and one-to-one video reviews. I started from zero (as a guitarist, though I have a lot of musical experience). My experience has been uniformly positive. I have been signed up to CGS for rather more than a year. I'm in my second year and am truly thankful to have found this program. In addition, all of the lesson material is there on both paper and video to review and study at any time. The structure and philosophy of the course organization is sound and well thought out. This course of study allows me the personal interaction I want with Allen and the staff, plus the support of the Woodshed community. I consider it better that a weekly session with a teacher. The lessons themselves are put together well and the structure of the entire program brings me into a network and family of other players with like interests. I soon discovered Allen and Classical Guitar Shed. I live in an area that has no one teaching classical, so I turned to YouTube and the internet. I Found What I Was Looking For, And More.Īfter a lifetime of playing steel string and electric guitar, I found myself interested in learning to play Classical Guitar.
